Hi. I’m looking for your help.

Next month I will be launching a new quarterly digital publication called The Accelerate Us Journal. The Journal will be a thematic collection of content around a specific emerging issue in our local economies and communities. My hope is to bring together a lot of very different stories that allow all of us to look at that theme from multiple perspectives — and find new insights. It will include some of my repurposed/redone/rejiggered/created content, but it will mostly focus on what other people are doing in the US and all over the world.

After doing the AccelerateUs: Dispatches from the Front Lines of the Local Economy Revolution series on video and podcast last year, I wanted to see what kinds of new insights happen when these amazing creators and doers talk together — and with you.

For our first Salon, titled “You Ain’t Doing it Alone,” we’ll be talking about new ways to make massive impact on the places and issues we care about — bigger than any of us could do on our own!

This is really my dream team to discuss this topic. We’ll talk with the founder of the SoCAP…

Hi, all.

About six years ago, Saul Kaplan of the Business Innovation Factory took to repeating a phrase in pretty much everything I saw from him:

Try More Stuff.

I think that’s pretty good advice, especially in a world that’s changing in ways that we can’t always predict. We don’t know what will work, so we gotta Try More Stuff. Including the stuff where we feel a little odd.

From the bright mind of barrygott.com

I’ve been trying a lot of stuff lately. Here’s a few things I think you’ll find interesting:

Substack and the Wise Fool Digest

For as long as I’ve had the Wise…

My new book, The Local Economy Revolution Has Arrived, includes a postlude that was probably one of the best pieces I ever wrote. And probably the hardest.

Not only does it progress through several places and people, but it touches on some things I’d rather not admit to. And on top of that, it features an early 2010s Twitter thread. Those ain’t easy to work with.

One of the challenges of this moment, this transition between old and new ways of living and working, is re-integrating the intellect and the heart. It’s so easy to talk ad nauseum about technical…

One thing that has changed since I published the first version of The Local Economy Revolution: What’s Changed and How You Can Help is that people now make trailers for books. Kind of like a movie trailer, but without car crashes and explosions (maybe I’m reading the wrong books).

Making the trailer for The Local Economy Revolution Has Arrived was actually kind of cool, though, because it gave me a chance to focus in on the core idea of the book — the disconnect…

After more than five years of learning and doing and failing and learning and doing again, the revised, updated and expanded version of my 2013 book, The Local Economy Revolution: What’s Changed and How You Can Help will be released in print, PDF and digital formats on February 10!

It’s hard enough to write a book, but it turns out that it’s even harder to redo a book that you’ve already put so much work into, and that’s become so much a part of your own…

We’re all looking at the coming year with some mix of hope and trepidation: an end in sight now to some of the biggest crises we’ve faced, but also a new, sobering awareness of Big Things we need to work on. I’ve been sketching the issues and the new opportunities I think we have to impact them, and I’d love to hear what you think.

Here’s one that I’ve been chewing on a lot:

We learned this year on a whole new level that we don’t know how to get along with people who are not like us. Whether it’s…
